What's an autro immune system?

what are it's uses? What does it do? I have psoriasis, I've heard it's not a hair or scalp issue, but an auto-immune disorder, which is usually hereditary. and I wondered what my auto immune system was, n if there was any cure for my condition. thanks for informative answers.
