Can local newspaper publish my picture and details without any form of permission (UK only)?

Earlier today a woman approached me saying she was doing article for the local newspaper and she wondered if she could ask me some questions for statistical data purposes which I was happy to do. At the time because she caught me off guard she asked me for a picture, but then later on I thought hang on, if she only wanted what I said for statistical data then why has she taken my picture, can she publish this in the newspaper if I haven't signed or given verbal consent?
