How far is the asteroid belt from all the other planets (including Pluto) and the sun?

It is located between Mars and Jupiter. No doubt at one time was a planet like the rest. Probably smashed into by a ping other smaller planet and knocking into pieces that are now just a collection of rocks and debris. Could have been us.
